Graduate!

Today was Chase's last day of kindergarten. Yesterday, May 25th, he had a Kindergarten Graduation ceremony. It was so sweet! They announced that he's class of 2023! Yikes! Scary to think about!Savvy giving Chase his candy lei. He's proud of himself and glad he's done with kindergarten. Please don't tell him how much harder 1st grade is going to be:)Chase with his best buddy.Chase with his class mates and teacher. He was excited to have a candy lei. I put his favorite gum, blow pops, and gummy bears. I think Chase's graduation was a big deal..he learned so much in 10 months of school. He learned how to be on his own, and he learned the alphabet and sounds. Next thing I know he's reading and spelling. By the end of the school year he was adding and subtracting, and every Friday there was a spelling test . Who does that in kindergarten? Or is it just in Hawaii? He also learned some of the Hawaiian language. I don't remember ever doing that in kindergarten. All I remember of kindergarten is my teacher reading books and recess.

He had long hours of school but it was all good for his development. I did miss not getting to watch him learn in class. At his school they didn't have parent heplers in class and any how I wouldn't have been able to with having Carl and Savvy with me.

Mother's Day 2011

I was sure spoiled from Greg and kids for Mother's Day! Saturday I had alone time with Carl and in my house I actually got to watch a chick flick movie. Greg took Chase and Savvy out:)

My Mothers' day breakfast was delicious and healthy. My lovely husband cooked-eggs, turkey bacon, and whole wheat toast with Nutalla. After that, the kids and Greg gave me gifts. I loved the leis and my mom had Greg get me one too, earrings, and chocolate. Greg got me Brookside Dark Chocolate Acai with blueberry. He knows that I'm trying to watch what I'm eating so what a wonderful way to give the gift of chocolate. Greg made me a coconut smoothie for lunch and beef burritos for dinner. I'm a happy mommy and wife:)
Thanks Kids and Greg for a special Mommy weekend!

May Day is Lei Day

Chase celebrated May Day at school a few days ago. He did really well performing! He learned two songs in the Hawaiian language. To my surprise, he actually sounds native and his voice sounds lovely:) I had him sing it to me before the May Day celebration.

May Day is a huge celebration on the island. Here is our little star before the show:

Here is a little description of May Day that l I found online:

The first Lei Day was held on May 1, 1928, and everyone in Honolulu was encouraged to wear a lei. Festivities were held downtown with hula, music, lei making demonstrations, exhibits and lei making contests.

May Day is celebrated in almost every elementary and high school throughout the state. A Royal Court is chosen and together with the King and Queen, each Princess and Kahili Bearers represent one of the islands. They each wear the color and flowers of their respective island and by way of traditional Hawaiian song, and dancing the Hu’la, they celebrate the Hawaiian culture and beauty of our islands.

Words to “May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii” composed by Leonard Hawk:

May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii
Garlands of flowers everywhere
All of the colors in the rainbow
Maidens with blossoms in their hair

Flowers that mean we should be happy
Throwing aside a load of care
Oh, May Day is Lei Day in Hawaii
May Day is happy days out there

Easter 2011

For Easter weekend I didn't take very many pictures, but I did get a few. On Friday, Savvy, Carl, Chase, and I spent the morning with my friend Terra and her children at the beach. We had a picnic and a Easter egg hunt. Saturday, there was a church woman's Spring Conference. A gathering with all the sisters. It was amazing! I love Relief Society:)

On Easter Sunday after church we had my really good friend Letty and her family come over for dinner. I love holiday food. Not so happy about gaining some weight from it:/ We had a feast! and were with great company!

Sunday morning the kids looking for their Easter eggs that the Easter bunny hid for them:)Carl looking at his brother and sister finding eggs:)Savvy looked so cute with her bunny tail:)

Birthday and Cheesecake

Greg wanted to keep his birthday a secret this year. So no mentioning how old he turned:) Greg and I have been all around the island but there is one section we weren't very familiar with. We decided to get to know it. The drive is lovely and the ocean view is relaxing:) After driving for 35 minutes Chase and Savvy needed to get out of the car. They don't do well on long drives:/ Stopping was okay for us because for the first time we found a hamburger joint, and the food was good. That Savvy has to eat or drink all the time! She's a big snacker too, and she always has to go to the bathroom. This is the hamburger place. Greg with Savvy at our first site-seeing location. The blow hole was super cool. A hit for Savvy and Chase:) It shot up 50 feet high. I hadn't made cheesecake for over 2 years. I wanted to make a spcial cake for Greg- So What's more special than cheesecake right?Greg though he'd be funny and eat his with chopsticks! Happy Birthday Dad! We are so grateful for you and all you do for us (your family:)
